WHAT DOES THE RDS CERTIFICATION MEAN?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organisation to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only goose and duck feathers bread for their meat and slaughtered before down and feather collection.

Inflating Power of down/feather filling

For this down jacket filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, the fill power is guaranteed to be 660 CUIN or more (European standard). The fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and its potential to “trap” air. So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation.

The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerber or mm H20 (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.

Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities.
